Today, millions of visitors know it as one of the greatest natural treasures, The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.The park's 800 square miles are home to more species of plants than any other area on the North American continent, as well as over 50 species of mammals, including frequently seen black bears. Its mountains are the highest in the Appalachian range. And, its possibilities for recreation and inspiration are endless.

NEW CONV CENTERYou can explore the gorgeous forests, waterfalls and soaring vistas via more than 900 miles of hiking trails. You can bike or ride horseback or even go lazily tubing down a mountain stream. You can fish for trout. You can picnic or camp or drive to one of the many historical sites preserving pioneer structures dating back to the 1840s. After all, you'll be right in the heart of everything the Smokies have to offer. You're in Gatlinburg, the Heart of the Smokies.

Located inside the park, 2 miles south of Gatlinburg on US 441.
Special Programs - Ranger-led programs conducted seasonally. Check at the visitor center for locations and times.

Picnic areas are located within the park at Twin Creeks and Chimney Tops just to name a few. Gatlinburg, Tennessee has beautiful city parks also that are an excellent family activity choice:
All three City Parks have covered pavilions available for use by reservation. Reservations may be made by calling the Gatlinburg Recreation Department at (865) 436-4990. The Gatlinburg City Commission provides free usage of the covered pavilions to Gatlinburg residents; the rates for anyone not living in Gatlinburg are below.  Fees for pavilion reservations must be paid prior to usage
